Ever wondered why computer software is 2D?

Once upon a time technological constraints may have been an excuse, but with the continued development of virtual reality (VR) headsets this is now less true than ever. Why when we've evolved to adapt to a vibrant 3D world should we continue to limit our digital lives to only two dimensions? Spacious challenges this norm by taking the computer user interface (UI) to the third dimension! Now your 'desktop' can be an actual desk, Netflix a cinema and Amazon a street market.

The project’s final film invited fictional YouTuber Alex to explore Spacious. His adventures included visiting an art gallery filled with social media content, editing a video by chopping up clips with a knife, and even ‘trolling’ another user by setting their world on fire.

With 3D UIs we can bring materiality to the digital and challenge the monotony of our current software. Spacious gives each of its users a digital world that they can customise and decorate until it feels like a second home. Not only does this result in a highly personalised experience, but it also combats the exploitative habits of the digital sector by returning control to the user.
